Hello everybody,
I haven’t had too much difficulty finding things to highlight this month. In fact, so many interesting pieces came up I have decided to concentrate on 2 of the best known Carlton Ware sellers, oscarpops and catstealer.
oscarpops sold an 8¼” tall jug in Rabbits at Dusk 4247 with slight crazing. This achieved a more than creditable £468.69 after 9 different ebayers put in 13 bids.
Another hard fought battle between 9 bidders, who made 25 bids, was for oscarpops’s listing of a 4¼” 3 footed conical bowl in HOLLYHOCKS 3820. This achieved a remarkable £385.00. Mind you, it is a little beauty, isn’t it readers?
9 more bidders landed 24 telling blows in fighting over yet another oscarpops item, a stunning 6″ vase in Secretary Bird 4017. It finally went for £870.00, but what a piece! I absolutely love it and I bet the buyer is well pleased – Ahhhhh, if only I hadn’t bought so much recently…………….
oscarpops went “once more unto the breach” and listed a pot pouri pot (unfortunately without it’s lid) in BELL 3786 which was noticed by a mere 428 ebayers. 7 of us wanted it and placed 20 bids which topped out at £200.00.
Was oscarpops finished? Certainly not, readers plenty more to come yet. Next up I report on a beautiful lidded box in JAZZ STITCH 3655. A little wear to the gilding did not deter 9 bidders from upping the ante to £339.99.
Finally from oscarpops we saw an octagonal 8¼” bowl in TURKISH 3116. This reached £293.99 after a 7 way 14 bid war. Another lovely piece. It would probably have been around £1000 in Wedgwood Fairyland lustre – Bargain in comparison!
Not to be outdone, catstealer listed some pretty good stuff too. Firstly we have an 8¼” Melange 3601 vase shape 1039, which reached £436.77. Unfortunately, one of eBay Masterspy’s friends was the under bidder for this piece and is now officially mega gutted.
On the same day catstealer listed an 8″ vase shape 217 in PARADISE BIRD & TREE with CLOUD 3143. This piece achieved a price of £335.00. Again, the colours and lustre are a stunning demonstration of the potter’s art.
Next a gorgeous 6¼” Art Deco shaped conical vase shape 777 in Devil’s Copse 3787. This one reached £300.00. A beautiful pattern and colourway and one in which eBay Masterspy is lucky enough to own a couple of little pieces.
If that wasn’t your bag, what about a 10″ ARMAND LUSTRE baluster vase shape 139 in FLIES 2134 in a pale blue mottled gloss? A snip at £168.00 with 13 different bidders disappointed here.

Wilton Ware vase, fraudulently marked Carlton Ware.
On a somewhat different tack, catstealer also listed an 8½” vase which our webmaster Harvey Pettit wrote an article on recently on this website. This piece Harvey tells us is by Wilton Ware and is fraudulently marked as Carlton Ware with a backstamp first used post 1968 long after the vase was made. It sold for £32.56 after 6 bids.
Finally, catstealer listed a 6¼” covered vase shape 244, without the lid , in Metropolis 3420, a pattern reminiscent of the New York skyline. He listed a tea caddy in the same pattern in January which went for £311.00 (see my January post on this). Where is he finding them readers? This one stirred the hearts of 11 ebayers and ended up at £205.00.
If only all the above were nestling in my cabinet. Mind you I would have to buy another to fit them all in and since we would have to move house to fit it in perhaps it is a good job I didn’t buy them all (the bank manager is probably pretty relieved as well).
Anyway, another month has rushed by and a new one is already well under way. If I don’t post this one soon there will have to be 2 articles at once.
Please feel free to make any comments you want. Just follow the link and have your say.
Best wishes to you all.
